Three major heat treatment methods for stainless steel screws

In general, in stainless steel standard parts, the heat treatment of Stainless Steel Screws is determined based on the hardness of the screws themselves. Common heat treatments include tempering heat treatment, chemical heat treatment, and localized heat treatment. The first two types of heat treatment are designed for the whole, and that type of heat treatment is for local treatment. Regardless of which heat treatment method is used, it is very important for the screw itself. Different hardness uses different heat treatment methods. Even for the same heat treatment method, with different hardness, the selected scale and hardness standards are different.

Three major heat treatment methods for screws:

1. Tempering heat treatment: Tempering heat treatment is mainly carried out by induction heating or flame heating. You can use two hardness testers to test the hardness of screws, and then decide which standard heat treatment to use. The two hardness testers are Vickers hardness tester and Rockwell hardness tester. In addition to determining the hardness, the selection can also be based on the thickness of surface heat treatment. For units used for processing or extensively using surface heat treated workpieces, a Vickers hardness tester is chosen; When the surface heat treatment hardening layer is thick, a Rockwell hardness tester can also be used. Different tempering heat treatment standards can be interchangeable because their conversion values are internationally recognized. After selecting a hardness tester, different scales should be selected, namely HRA scale and HRC scale.

2. Chemical heat treatment: Another heat treatment method for screws. Chemical heat treatment mainly involves infiltrating atoms of one or several chemical elements into the surface of the workpiece, thereby changing the chemical composition, structure, and properties of the workpiece surface. What effect can be achieved after chemical treatment? After quenching and low-temperature tempering, chemical heat treatment can make the surface of the workpiece have high hardness, wear resistance, and contact fatigue strength, while the core of the workpiece has high strength and toughness.

3. Local heat treatment: According to the requirements of different stainless steel screws, not all screws require overall heat treatment. Some screws only require local heat treatment, which is the local heat treatment method. This type of local heat treatment can be used for parts with high local hardness requirements, such as induction heating for local quenching heat treatment. Such parts usually need to be marked with the location and local hardness value of the local quenching heat treatment on the drawing.
